Could you explain in the simplest way you can how VLAN/port/interface assignments work on bridges?
I know how to do this on Linux — Distributed Switch Architechture — on Cockpit and on the command line, on VyOS, and on other platforms and but on Mikrotik’s software I find it so confusing.

Why does adding the VLANs on the bridge window doesn’t make them available on the Interface List window? But if you want to add it on the Interface List window if already added on the Bridge window, it won’t let you because it’s already there.
And, what difference does it make if several VLAN IDs are listed in a single interface vs individually or in a careless mess like in the picture above. If VLAN entries in the switch windows are independently listed, does it mean there some kind of isolation? Documentation goes on and on but glosses over this, both MediaWiki and Confluence.
I can always just add them in the Interface List window but it locks out a lot of features if done individually and if I get it to work like I’ve done in the past, I really don’t know what’s going on. I’ve would’ve restored a config backup file already if I felt confident about it. ![]()
Please, if you could explain it as if to a kindergartner, or to a cheerleader that never stopped clapping, maybe if it’s memorable I won’t have to look it every time I use these devices, I’ll be indebted to you; sexual favors, a hit man, j/k
. It’s kind of an emergency, power went down (I think–it was during the night) storage server crashed and with it most network devices. I’m using a cellphone right now. Thanks!
