Quick Dumb Qusetion

Is there or will there be a Linux eqiuivalent of Winbox?
I use Ubuntu 95% of the time.

use some kind of viritualisation software to run windows “apps”

dont have any winbox to linux if u know how u can use terminal or ssh

I tried to ues wine a long time ago and it didn’t run reliably or well. Maybe I’ll try again. I wanted to access the ROS GUI from the Internet but the Webfig won’t work because I have dst-natted my web server and all port 80 trffic goes there.

I do use ssh and the CLI but like to look at the GUI to see what’s going on

Thanks fo the feed back
If the MikroTik guys have a suggestion box, LinBox would be my contribution.

You can use wine or crossover to run Winbox on Linux or OSX.

or just webfig.

Webfig is useful from my iPad but I would NEVER consider it as a winbox replacement.

Set the http port to something other then port 80

/ip services …

I use winbox under wine on Debian. Works well for me… Should work well on Ubuntu.

One tip though If you want to connect to your routerboard by MAC address, make sure you give your network adaptor a default gateway. Or else you will not be able to connect.

give us more details. functionality is 99% same, what else do you think is missing from Webfig copared to Winbox ?

I would really like to see multiple windows within webfig. For example you could have open /ip address /ip firewall filter /interface all open at the same time without having to switch between pages to view each. This is useful if you are doing testing or troubleshooting and need to see multiple areas at the same time.

Some other things are being able to show more columns like in winbox and being able to filter rules. The biggest thing though is being able to connect to the router via mac-winbox. This is a great feature if something goes wrong and you lose IP connectivity with your box.

One thing I would really like to see in winbox is the ability to “break-out” tabs from their windows. So for example you could see /ip firewall filter and /ip firewall mangle at the same time.

how do you imagine this in the iPad web browser? Splitting windows into “panes” like in the Dude ?

That could work. I was talking about it more for a computer browser though. The topic started out for a Winbox alternative for Linux.

For a mobile device the current webfig is pretty good, the only thing I can’t do is reorder any rules from my iPad or iPhone. Anything that is more involved I will get to a computer.

Thanks, we will look into that.

@Cbrown. I think u should try TikTool in ur iPad and iPhone. I have been using it for a long time now and works great while ur on the move. It pings all ur server ip at the same time and let’s u know which server is down. It has all the functions of winbox and makes troubleshooting easier.

I have it. I’m not a big fan. I prefer webfig over tiktool.
