Quick winbox vs CLI hotspot setup question

Ok, I’m getting a better feel for what is going on now. I can do this from the CLI pretty easy, but would like to see if it can be done from Winbox…just to see if it can be done.

  1. In the CLI hotspot setup, you can set masquerade=yes. If you create your hotspot in Winbox, is that set to default to masquerade=yes? Not configured at all and you have to configure it? And if you can configure it in Winbox, where?

  2. I know you have to set up an IP pool, but do you have to set up a DHCP server in Winbox before configuring the Hotspot? Or does creating the Hotspot in winbox do dhcp for you.

I searched for several hours on this, but so many examples are from the CLI, that I couldn’t find an answer on my own. Sure appreciate any replies.

I’m pretty sure the Winbox hotspot setup wizard does all these things, it’s fairly much the same as the cli.

Yes it does. I was at home when I posted that and didn’t have access to a RouterOS system.

I was creating the hotspot by hitting the big red plus sign in IP hotspot. If you do that, it does not create everything. It will do it if you go through setup in winbox, though. Honestly, it didn’t hit me that “setup” was the same thing as the CLI interface until you mentioned it.

I’m working on making a hotspot without using the setup wizards, though. Just so I can learn more about what is really going on without setup doing everything for me. I think I know how, now.

Thanks,
