I’ve got a RB4011 running ROS 7.6.
I’ve noticed that the QuickStart screen in Winbox is showing completely the wrong settings (it’s got the wrong port as the WAN port, it’s got the wrong internet authentication type, the wrong subnet settings etc).
The actual settings applied are correct and the router is working fine however. I can export the config and everything is as I expect.
When I tried to correct this last time from within the QuickStart screen, it created a whole bunch of duplicated entries (like the PPPoE client for our internet connection) which effectively locked the router out and we had to connect with console cable to get things back again.
Is this just a bug in the ROS or something that I can fix (without knocking out the router again)?
QuickSet is ONLY for applying default setting for devices out of the box. If you already configured the device yourself, you should leave this section alone. It can’t display your custom settings, it can apply NEW settings.
Indeed. It has been requested many times to make it so that the QuickSet screen becomes readonly after further customization, either automatically or set by the admin.
QuickSet sort of gives the impression that it is an easy way to admin the router, while in fact it is mostly intended to apply an initial template to a new router.
Well, it has some place as a sort of status panel for the router. Especially for the WiFi part.
That is why I suggest it being made read-only.
(it is sometimes suggested that you can use “skin” but unfortunately you cannot remove the OK and APPLY buttons using skin, only the entire QuickSet can be removed this way)
Ran into that one myself. Using a read-only user avoids, but not always what’s desired. And the “Status” page in webfig isn’t available in winbox, so can’t use that for a “QuickStatus”. #QuickSand
Just one question. If MikroTik do get rid of it after first use in a later release of ROS, where would you access the “check for updates” feature from?
Or is there a better way of getting ROS updates/upgrades?
