R11e-LTE RSSI

Hello!

I got one question about R11e-LTE. There is no RSSI inforamtion when R11e-LTE connects to LTE.
But if R11e-LTE connects to 3G or 2G i can see RSSI.

Besides we got Huawei me909s-120. And it shows RSSI regardless of network type.

R11e-LTE doesn’t report RSSI values in LTE mode so we can’t show that.

RSSI (received signal strength indication) is the most useless quantity to report on any SFN (single frequency network). The list of SFN networks include 4G (LTE) and 3G (UMTS) … while on 2G (GSM) it is almost useful (as inter-base station interference should be kept at minimum in order to have 2G working).

Meaningful quantities are:

  • RSRP (serving cell signal strength) and RSRQ (serving cell signal quality) on 4G (LTE.
  • RSCP (serving cell signal strength) and Ec/No (serving cell signal quality) on 3G (LTE).
  • for completeness sake: RxLev (serving cell signal strength) and RxQual (serving cell signal quality) on 2G (GSM).

.
Using RSSI to assess LTE signal strength is same as using V-meter on output of photo diode trying to assess strength of received signal of signal lamp … the result quite much depends whether there’s some interference in form of daylight or not.
