We were testing some of the R2N radios using the 4.0b3 firmware. This is a VERY close link and when the radios came online they saw each other in the -28dBm. So, we adjusted the tx-power manaully to 0 for all modulations and of course saw this rise to the -40’s.
Throughput was terrible yet (likely have a seperate multipath problem) so we thought we would turn power down to -10. This is where the HUGE issue came in. Apparently either Winbox or the Mikrotik OS decided that signal strength is only a 7 bit unsigned number, so it just blindly set tx-power to 118!!! Well radios are now fried and we have a customer that is less than excited about the delay while we get replacements.
There needs to be some sort of bounds checking put in place to prevent this sort of thing. Granted if I set it to 118 myself and fried them, my problem. But setting them to -10 and the software frying them is not a good solution.
Thanks!
