R52Hn antenna & Frequency CONFIGURATION questions.

  1. Where can I find documentation on the antenna configurations for R52Hn ?

  2. It’s a 5GHz & 2GHz, but also 2x2 mimo … Because I know that the antennas need to be properly tuned to the frequencies, I assume that it can either be {2x2 MIMO 2GHz} OR {2x2 MIMO 5GHz} OR {5GHz 1x1 and 2GHz 1x1}. Is my assumption right ?

  3. How do I configure the card for 2GHz 2x2 MIMO ?

  4. How do I configure the card for 5GHz 2x2 MIMO ?

  5. How do I configure the card for 2GHz on left connector and 5GHz on right connector ?

  6. If I configure the radio as a mobile client MIMO configuration & I have the 2 antenna positioned where they usually DON’T SEE the same access point because I want more connectivity possibility. Will this confuse the DSP ? Say I have 2x 180 degree directional antenna placed at both end of a train.. Will this reduce the capability of the radio because it will be confused trying to multiplex or bond channels ?

I have this card connected to a Linux x86 processor, not a routerboard OS.

One of the bonuses of 2.4 and 5GHz is that the 5Ghz is half the wavelength of the 2.4Ghz. That means that you can use a single antenna tunes for 2.4Ghz as a ½ wave 5Ghz antenna. That said, just find a nice 2/5Ghz dual band omni and you are set. The wireless config in RouterOS will let you select which band that you want to use. Unfortunately, you will not be able to do both 2.4 and 5 at the same time - that requires two separate radios. So, you will select your band, then configure the two chains on that band.

Thank you Dave,

That’s a good observation, but the antenna selection is not my main concern. Unfortunately I’m not using RouterOS, but a LinuxOS.
