R52Hn heat/problems

We have installed several R52Hn using both channels with hi volume data. We are experiancing quit often that the units over heats and then operates intermittendly.

One case it burnt blisters and another case it melted the socket of the pc board.

Does anybody else experiance heat and technical problems with the R52Hn on 5 G dual channel tx?

What kind of antenna you use with R52Hn?

32 dB dish ( dual feed)

I had very little trouble with the 5H but it only started with the 52Hn if it works it is fine but I had quit a few going funny.

I stopped replacing other links because of this problem

1 even gave as severe blisters so hot it got.

If this can be sorted it will be a very nice product.

The main pain is that once it colls off then it works but then we loose trust in it. The local supplier then test the radio we return it as with no fault … and then we install it to get the same problem again.

I must at mit that we are constantly sending hi volume of data and we are using intel dual cores becaus the 433 are to limited in power to nhandle what we are doning. Our data is also routed by an external router and a server. Our system is mounted in a 800 X 600 X 300 steel enclosure and we have proper ventalation working through it. We have got two time 50mm 220V fans with prope filters …

Hi there

I was just wondering how many R52Hn cards you are running in your RouterPC? We are trying to run 3, but we find that when more than one card occupies the same IRQ then the entire system keeps crashing. With our old R5H cards we never had this problem.

Also, what kind of speeds are you getting on Dual N?

Have you ever experienced anything like this?

4 R52Hn and 4 R52n works great only the heat prob. Yes we are using pc routers. We get +/- 80 M full duplex. But believe me it is a stream not a burst.

We did have a prob like that. We installed a hi quality power supply hi wattage and run a power cable from the supply to the card (soloder on pcb) so it has external supply even the 8 pci card works fantastci!!!

I love these cards they work great it is only the heat problem and then the support in SA it sucks big time

MK should add an external power connector.
Also make sure your card is stable and screwd down when you pump data it it does chow power with 4 radios and two chans per radio.
The cards aren’t full duplex so we use one for tx and 1 for rx.

I think the reason for the new probs are because of the higher volume of data and therefore the amps as working harder chowing more power. Also I prefer the AMD to intell. It seems that the amd uses more power but works better under when it works our cpu’s runs 60 - 70% utilization. THen some likes blonds other brunetts

It works hard.

Hi
@Erastus

I see you are also located in Cape Town like us. Is it possible for you to send me your e-mail address so we can communicate with you directly?

Thanks

This card take 2,1A@3,3V if you stack them you make many heat in very small place. You need just additional fan system.

Thanks for the comment.
We have a big steel box with 2 X 50 mm fans.

More than enough cooling

hi
what amd motherboard would you recomend for a routerpc where the onboard gigabit lan and chipset is supported

We used the JetWay PA78M5-HD cost +/- $ 30 great board use a 500 Watt power supply

hi
can you please send me the drawing where to solder the wires on the pci card (I asume it is 5 volt)

thanks

With 0 ohms resistor swich 5V power source and solder external power source wires in located place. See attached picture. Don’t mix 5V polarity! Don’t exceed 5V! In that way you reduce heat dissipation from card.

There shoulb be a small 2 pin power connections installed by MT connecting power here works well

I just want to make sure, apart from the - and + solder wires, must the upper contact from the 0 ohm resistor be soldered to the top one?

R34 and R27 must be connected, yes!

These cards are shipped from the ODM without a sticker on the RF shield, and there are actually holes in the RF shield to help with ventilation.

Maybe removing the sticker will help with cooling…

I would test the card for Failure first, I have had a card with the same issue from scoop, Card would get very warm in a day or 2 was related to the High-Amp and i tested it easy enough.

A very good guide is available from

http://kumpulan-tutorial-mikrotik.blogspot.com/2011/02/manualwireless-card-diagnostics.html

My geuss is that its the same issue, If you notice that you also have an issue scanning all the SSID’s at the same time

there is a better guide as well out there.

I wanted to ask if this 5V power will resolve the Mikrotik RB433AH with 3xR52HN cards issue (where 3 R52HN cards dont work well together in a 433AH), or if that issue is also related to CPU requirements.

the power mod is only used for x86 pc routers
