R5SHPn - Any problems with long ethernet links 200'

Hi Everyone,

We have setup a link using the R5SHPn cards. First we have had to replace 2 cards since our deployment, not sure on the reason, just the routerboard won’t respond.

The POE at the bottom just continously flashes. We remove the card and the the routerboard boots up.

We are running 5.14 OS on the routerboard.

We have single in the mid 50’s

We have nearly perfect ccq

We have great through-put tested over a 7 day period.

Went to put the link into production, and the routerboard decided to no longer respond.

Voltage being delivered to the top is 22 volts, this was determined by the system health tool.

I replaced the card with another one, first time boot it booted normal. After about 5 mins, the routerboard become non responsive.

Swap routerboard with a completely different model, the routerboard doesn’t boot.

After returning from the top , I took the replacement card and tried it on a POE with a 10 foot cable, and the replacement routerboard and card booted without any problems. This is puzzling, as it just wouldn’t boot at the top of the structure.

The orginal card is confirmed dead.

So on to my question, Is there a voltage or a concern on the length of the ethernet cable. Would a higher voltage POE solve the problem.

We shy away from Mikrotik Cards, because several places in our network, where we use MK wireless cards, we have had to replace them 6-8 months. The R5SHPn is a really awesome “idea” for a card Single Chain N, we are just concerned on if we can rely on this card.

The routerboard we used for this project is. RB435G.

We used a 24 Volt POE.

Again, we are puzzled at why a replacement card boots, and then doesn’t .

There is obviously a issue somewhere, just not sure where. The only thing that we haven’t done is swap out lmr, and pigtail’s
