Random reboot of new CRS328-24P-4S+RM

Hi. Bought a new one CRS328-24P-4S+RM and sometimes it rebooting randomly, sometimes when I connect CAT6 connected to patch-panel (but nothing connected to the patch-panel). My setup: CRS328-24P-4S+RM connected via SFP1 port to RB5009, all 24 ports connected to patch panel, nothing connected to patch-panel at this moment. An internet said it can be static electricity or problems with voltage. But I have stable 220-230V and grounding. RouterOS was updated from 7.16 to 7.21.3, have an issue on a both. Maybe someone has the same problem, or I just need RMA (because of very important reasons I have no more then 2 weeks on RMA).

And want to add - before this I had an issue when router didn’t started and for a few times after start router turned on LEDs on different ports randomly. After a few rebooting it starts to work, but then…See the beginning

Are you running SwOS or RouterOS?
Is that/those CAT6 connectors/cables shielded or not?
Are you using PoE out?

It does sound like an electricity/grounding issue of some kind, particularly if you have PoE enabled it could also be power supply.

The CRS328 has three groups of ports:

I would try with one group of ports at the time, and see if it happens on all (each) of them.

The failure to start (or the "funny" start with leds blinking randomly) sounds instead more like a power supply issue.

But if now it boots normally, it is improbable that the PSU fixed itself, so it could be something else.

As I see it, 7.16 is a bit "old" and 7.21.3 is too d@mn new.

I would try netinstalling 7.19.6 to it and see if things change (for the better).

If you have the possibility to RMA it without too much hassle, I would try confirming the boot issues and then RMA it for that reason only.

Thank you for response.

  1. RouterOS, but configured as L2 switch (just a bridge for eth1-24 and SFP+ 1)

  2. CAT6 not shielded, no more then 0.5m right to the patch panel. Patch panel was checked with RJ45 tester and my laptop

  3. POE in auto mode, I didn’t connected anything except my laptop, because my server rack still on a setup stage

  4. I had a problem with different ports from group 9-16, but it happens randomly so it’s difficult to repeat issue. Maybe Issue in all the groups, who knows. It’s difficult to check

  5. About failure to start. When it happened restart didn’t helped, just after a few restarts and pressing/holding reset button it started to boot normally. It looked like this faulty new CRS328-24P-4S+RM

  6. I cant try another RouterOS because of two reasons. The first one - I returned it to the shop and their serviceman trying to find an issue, and the second reason - I don’t have a time for this. Router should be used in a critical system, so I can’t use it if I know there will be an issue in any moment. And company wouldn’t give me money for a new one while I try to fix router by myself. Just hope a shop will make RMA and I will get a new one

Yep, if RMA is possible, definitely go for it.
