I picked up a CRS112-8G-4S-IN not long ago, and I’m enjoying it. One of the things my boss is wanting to do (we’re online educators), is that he’s covering examples of old tech (10base2, 10base5, Token Ring, etc…), and he was wondering if I could make video showing how to splice repair fiber optics cables (haven’t done that in 10 years, to be honest).
My question is, which fiber optic SFPs can I use, if I pick up a 2nd CRS112-8G-4S-IN, and a pair of transceiver?
Initially, I was thinking about doing that with my Cisco switches, but the data sheet lists a ton of “compatible” SFPs, and yet their "transceiver compability page claims that only a 100Mbps RJ-45 SFP works with those. That’s why I’m thinking “Screw it, I’ll use my MikroTik devices, instead of splurging on additional Cisco switches have zero use for”.
Can anybody clue me in on which SFPs listed on the CRS112-8G-4S-IN product page will work? Thanks in advance!
BTW, I’m also loving those Metal 52 ACs, the SXT SA5, as well as the switch. In ages past, a US company used to use Routerboards in an IP68 enclosure for outdoor install. The sole complaint was that the radios they used sucked, so we’d routinely open them up, replace them with radios with insane receive sensitivity, and carefully seal them back up. Zero complaints from customers ever since. ![]()
