RB 1100 AHx2 upgrade from RouterOS v5.8 to v5.18 FAILED

Hi we’ve a problem with an RB 1100 AHx2.
We used to have a RouterOS v5.8 on the router board and we wanted to upgrade to the latest version 5.18.
We uploaded the new release and rebooted but unfortunately when the router rebooted it showed still the RouterOS v5.8 and moreover we noticed that the RB 1100 AHx2 lost some configuration such as admin password and radius configuration.
Unfortunately we do not have any rs232 cable attached to the routerboard so no messages from console: when we try to remove the routeros v5.18 package from the board, we get an error: “Action failed (6)” and so we’re stuck.
Anyone with such a problem?

P.s. I tried to create a backup from the terminal with the command ‘export file=filename’ and it fails with the error ‘file operation error’

Thanks

It’s known problem with SAMSUNG NAND Flash on newer RB-s. You should format NAND with NetInstall 5.18.

Wow…amazing  I think I’ll substitute the AHx2 with another one and try the netinstall as you suggested; the strange thing is that we upgraded another AHx2 from v5.8 to v5.18 without problems (I opened it and checked for the nand flash and it was a Samsung nand just like the one’s failing!).

Thank you

We are investigating this issue, and will provide a fix ASAP

could you please contact support with your supout.rif file or at least the serial number?

I have same problem. I install 1100 x2 in NL DC as router. Today I upgrade it from 5.17 to 5.18 and router not up after it. Now I waiting that some guys connect it to temporary comp with utp and serial for flashing it. Yeah, 90Euro for remote hands.

Loading freeze at Starting services, I see it in console. Will reflash it now via netinstall.

in most cases if loading stops after “Starting services” mean only that console on serial port is disabled. And Starting services is last message that RouterOS writes to serial port when it is booting up. Other possibility is - baud rate has been changed in RouterOS.

You can remove old configuration and see if you still have a problem of freezing after “Starting services”

Please - everyone with RB1100AHx2 upgrade issues, send your serial numbers and supout.rif files to support@mikrotik.com to help us reproduce this issue.

Hi, after a reboot I looked at the output of the boot procedure and found that now the RB 1100 AHx2 is now correctly booting with v5.18. Tried to create a backup to see if the router was able to write on the flash and the backup went ok.
Do you suggest to re-install anyway with netinstall?

Asap I’ll try to send the info to the support

Thanks
