RB 112 Serial and LAN not connecting

I have a RB 112. The initial problem was that the LAN Leds would go off after the Kernel had booted. I was thus unable to load an OS to the board. I tried to boot the board and load via Ethernet (serial connection). It just keeps trying to boot. I have reformated NAND???
I cannot get into the board.
The questions are:

1. How do I get into the board
2. How do I load say 2.9.38 - I have tried to load 2.9.40 with Netinstall.

serial null modem cable will help you to connect to your router…

Thanks - I have tried the cable. On Ether boot it “times out” and restarts.
On Nand boot it retsrtarts every 2 seconds.. In other words it is trying to boot all the time.
