Hi,
i had 2 RB133 65mw standard, they are just next to each other.
i made BWtest on one, i am getting MAXIMUM bandwidth @ 20mbps TCP (up 12, down 8)
both registed @ 54mbps 2.4 B/G band.
i tried diffrent frequency, diffrent band, 5Ghz, etc.. MAX always is 20mbps.
how can i get the full 54mbps?? they are like 10 cm near each other…
54mbps will never get you 54mbps. It’s an “air rate” and in my opinion is misleading for a lot of people. The rule I use, is the maximum actual throughput you will get is 1/2 of the air rate, or 27mbps in your case. You also won’t see that much with an RB133 board because the CPU gets maxed out and can’t push any more data. I think your tests are pretty close or better than what most people say that model can do.
You will never get more than 20 mbit/s tcp over a board with MIPS 175 CPU and that’s also kind of the limit for 802.11g/a at 54 mbit air rate. If you try turbo-mode on a 175MHz MIPS (RB112, RB133(c), RB153, RB192), the board overloads and just reboots.
RB532 in turbo-mode you might get more, but in general, don’t expect much more than around 25-30 mbit/s total, if you keep it realistic, because your signal might also fluctuate due to environment and other units in the same band.
20Mbps TCP throughput on a 133? Are you sure that wasnt UDP? Seems unlikely to achieve that, however maybe in the same room.
The real problem for you is the question ‘Why dont I get 54Mbps?’…You are now dealing with fundamentals that need to be understood for proper analysis and troubleshooting. It will will go a long way in helping you understand and identify performance characteristics of this type of equipment.
Essentially you have hit the limit, in more ways than one. As another post indicated, that throughput (especially if its TCP) is exceptional for all the previous reasons mentioned. Look at your processor utilization on both ends when doing the BW test. Im sure its saturated…
