I have recently deployed a RB150 as an edge firewall/router. We have about 70 clients on the private network doing NAT to a 10Mbps pipe to the internet. I am getting moderate (25%) CPU utilization during slow times and very high utilization when traffic is > 5Mbps. Where are all the cycles going? I am not doing anything but filter and Nat. Am I expecting too much out of this box?
I’ll answer my own question. Yes. I just put in a RB493 (680 mhz) and it is not even breaking a sweat. CPU always <10%.
