I intend to replace some p3@1ghz with rb433ah because of low power consumption and because I have only one PCI and want to do a n-strean dual. I mention that I use it as a transparent bridge without routing. Do you think it would be reliable? which is better?
The Pentium 3 most likley has more actually processing horsepower but since you’re using it only as a transparent bridge there is likely no difference. To do dual Nstreme with your P3 you’d need a RB14 which will set you back a good portion of the cost of that 433AH so I think it’s a given which way you should go. Keep the P3 around since you’ve already had to pay for a license just as a backup if the 433 dies for some reason…
If you were doing some really complex routing and traffic shaping then the P3 might be a better solution since it would be able to handle the more CPU intensive jobs but in a transparent bridge the 433AH has plenty of horsepower to do what you’re looking at. We are running some 433AH’s in our system in dual Nstreme as transparent bridges and they never see a very high load even at full throughput.
You can use RB433 as a same work.
