RB as a WiFi bridge for Heating/AC Control Unit

Hi,

one of my customers produces control units for heating, air-conditioning and venting system (HaCVS). This unit is in the power rack, DIN rail mounted. It is equipped with one Ethernet interface. Setting of the HaCVS is done via local matrix display with keypad or via ssh/web access. He ask me if it possible to use some of the RBs as a bridge to the wireless network. I told him, that this is absolutely no problem.

The point is that the configuration of the RB must be done via the control panel on the HaCVS unit and be as simple as possible. The intension is that user of the HaCVS unit will buy defined RB (some 711 or Groove 2) with factory default and connect it by cable and poe injector to the HaCVS. The unit will be capable to configure RB and the user only choose a Wifi network from the list on the local display and fill in encryption key.

So it is possible to detect RB at the L2 level and do configuration via API also at L2?

Thanks for any ideas, recommendations, etc.

Good Luck in 2012.
