My RB 133 first rebooted and set. But after shutdown (with shutdown command) the unit became not bootable. Both blue and green lights are on, no beeping,
Trie reset & soft reset, but doesn’t help.
Does it mean it’s dead?
Can i user terminal to make it alive again?
Too much trouble to send it out for replacement, bought o/s.
Uses standard 24v, 2A. No problems with any other units.
If all else fails, the serial terminal is sometimes the only way in. I am notorious for locking myself out of my own boxes with my firewall, and must use the serial port to unlock it.
Nullmodem cable required. 115200-8-N-1 hardware flow control. If it can be recovered, this should do it:
Not related to the original topic, but why not use “safe mode” when updating firewalls?
If you are in an ssh/telnet/serial terminal, just do “CTRL-X” to toggle safe mode on/off. If in Winbox:
Open new terminal window
“CTRL-X”
LEAVE THE TERMINAL WINDOW OPEN
Do whatever “clicking” you are gonna do in the firewall (or elsewhere for that matter)
Locate the terminal window where you entered safe mode and type “CTRL-X” to toggle it back off
Safe mode allows you to work “worry free”, since if you get disconnected before toggling it back off, it will “revert changes”. Safe mode “remembers” up to (I believe) the most recent 100 changes. FWIW, if you close winbox without toggling off safe mode, even if you do it on purpose, it will revert the changes…
Easier said than done! If I remembered that, I would remember not to lock myself out! And then, if the changes did not take effect because the safe mode reverted them back, I would be a little more than just irritated.
And somehow it does make me feel better knowing it locks me out. Lets me know it is working.
