Hi,
I have a problem with my mikrotik RB1000 that i don’t get to fix.
I changed the admin password and it turns out I’ve forgotten the password i set.
I don’t want to reset my configurations because that router is one of my crucial backbone routers.
So, first of all I just want to know how can I find out the admin password or how delete or change it ?
Secondly, the OS on my RB1000 is version 5.1 and i made the backup file (rsc file not compacted). I know that OS v5.1 is not able to generate the compact file.
the new RB1000 (2nd one) I have is version 5.20 (up to date). My question is: is it possible to import the rsc file (of 1st RB1000 OS v5.1) to the 2nd RB1000 OS v5.20 without doing any changes?
If not, how ?
The only way to recover the password is to grab a backup file of the router and use one of the online utilities that will read it. The question is, how much do you trust them with the file, so you would definitely want to change the password after that and any others that have the same password. Other than that, reset the configuration, or swap out the router with the same configuration.
As far as being able to take the .rsc and port it into another router. You will want to delete some information like MAC addresses and the like. Also some syntax may have changed with that many versions difference, so the best way to do it is open up an SSH session with something like PuTTy and paste it in there. It will highlight any syntax errors as it puts in the commands and you can fix them accordingly.
