RB1000 maximum L2TP sessions ?

Hi there,

We are looking at deploying a number of RB1000’s to terminate L2TP sessions from dial-up users on Lucent APX concentrators. Is anyone doing this currently, and what sort of connection numbers are believed to be the maximum per RB1000 ?

We are looking to support around 15000 concurrent users, but are trying to figure out how many RB1000’s we would need to do this.

Note, that you will need RADIUS server to handle so many L2TP users.

MikroTik RouterOS PPP database is designed for 60-80 users, so RADIUS server should be used.

Question Mikrotik,
Is this limit of 60 to 80 user still valid as of Feb 2021?
And maybe if you could mention a reason as to what issue occurs when one does try hundreds of L2TP server sessions in a Mikrotik?
I can imagine some users business expands over time and this limit gets overlooked until things begin to get unreliable?

Also does Mikrotik not have some other VPN type protocol now days that does support thousands of sessions?
