Hello, the RB1000 router looks great but what about a PC mainboard and a VT6106HG card? Would this not make an equally powerful and more expandable router as long as a quality mainboard was used? Or does the maximum throughput of the PCI bus limit traffic potential? How about a single port card in each PCI slot on a 5 PCI port mainboard?
regular PCI bus speed is very limited, it doesn’t matter how many ports per slot you have, the PCI bus speed is total per motherboard.
You could compete with RB1000 only if you used PCI express cards.
in RB1000’s favor - it will always be 100% supported by mikrotik, and there will be no hardware-incompatibility issues. Plus it’s small and silent, can be mounted in a rack etc.
Thanks for the reply. The RB1000 it is then ![]()
