RB1100AH (x2) which Port to use?

Hi

As I read in this forum and in the Manual, it’s better to split connections with higher load (ex. Backbone) between the two internal switches. Port 11 seems to be connected directely to the CPU and Ports 12+13 are connected over PCI-E.
But in other threads some people write that one should avoid to use Port 11 - 13, which confuses me a little. In my opinion at least Port 11 should be a good Port for a high bandwidth connection because it’s directely connected to the CPU.

Since I’m just planing how to wire a RB1100AHx2 I need to know what works the best.

Could someone please shed some light on this?

Many Thanks!

Over the time there were several RB11xx boards - old RB1100/RB1100AH and new RB1100AH/AHx2, if i’m not mistaken MT switched to new CPU revision.

on all the newest boards (including AHx2) ether11 is directly connected to CPU

I use port 13 due to POE capability and have my power injectors on a UPS ( http://www.ispsupplies.com/Home/Digital-Loggers-24VPOE.html). It runs just fine.

I Hope this helps. We will add such diagrams to our manuals in the future.
As you can see, to achieve max performance, choose one port from each category: one CPU port (Ether 11), one PCIe port (Ether 13), one Switch1 port (any Ether 1-5), and one from Switch2 group (any Ether 6-10)

Thanks normis

this helped a lot.
