Hello,
i’m using RB1100AHx2 router OS 5.22 with 400Mbps of internet and BGP with default route only. CPU is about 45% and have more than 1 gig of memory free. no queues, no firewall rules (except spam protection) using ports 11 & 12 for WAN & LAN.
the problem is that my RB seems to work fine, but i have a lot of lost pings. 5-10%. to my providers peer ip.
This does not necessarily indicate an issue, they could just be rate-limiting ICMP and/or their router could be dealing with them as a lower prioirity. Are you seeing any packet loss connecting to real destinations (popular websites, DNS servers etc)?
It’s because “ping” has a very low priority. A Router has more important things to do…
Even very big and expensive routers drop pings.
The best way to check if a router or a link between two routers is causing the problems, is to ping a host behind the neighbouring router. You should ping a Server like cupis wrote. If you get drops even to Servers behind your neighbouring router then you can be quite sure that something is wrong with the routers or the path between them.
