It does not display the current-firmware. Tried to upgrade the firmware but nothing happened.
Also, after every logout from the winbox, the users defined disappear, and i am only left with the admin and no password, and that is really a big security issue.
I tried uploading newer version, atm it has 5.13 so wanted to add 5.24 but when i try to upload it with drag and drop it does nothing. If i try to FTP on it it says read-only.
If i try to make a backup it says couldn’t make backup action failed.
/system backup save name=test
Saving system configuration
Failed to save system configuration backup
action failed (6)
Is there anything that we can do? Or the router is busted?
I have one more question:
I need to move an office, but i need it to be with the lowest downtime possible. Can someone tell me what routerboard should i buy to create a VPLS MPLS between the two offices for the migration?
There are around 10 servers and 70 workstations and i need the layer 2 tunnel because i cannot change the subnet, so the move must be as transparent as possible.
I need the cheapest option for 2 routers which can deal with the traffic over vpls, since those will not be used afterwards.
This is very unfortunate I also had that problem with two of my RB1100AHx2.
The problem seems to be related to the NAND driver. There are some very old threads about this in the forum.
ROS 5.14 contains a fix:
What’s new in 5.14 (2012-Feb-22 12:04):
*) fixed rare configuration retention problems on RB1100AHx2;
However, it seems that an upgrade is no longer possible due to possibly corrupted NAND FS.
If possible do a text configuration backup (using “/export” command in terminal, don’t try to write to disk),
but be prepared that some major parts may be missing (because of inability to read correctly from flash).
Sometimes it helps to reset the boot-loader to defaults (use serial cable for this),
and rebooting the RB a few times. Afterwards try again to create a Backup.
Please only try this after exporting your configuration.
Afterwards, netinstall your RB1100AHx2 with a current ROS version (I suggest 5.24 or 5.17).
Regarding your second question - you didn’t specify any estimates in regard to traffic.
How much do you need to bridge around?
10 Mbps? 100 Mbps? 1000 Mbps?
10k pps, 100k pps, 1000k pps?
Every RB, even RB750, can handle VPLS over MPLS (but usually, EoIP is an easier choice unless you definitely know what you’re doing).
So it really depends on the amount of traffic you expect.
I need to pass 10-20 Mb since the internet bandwidth is only 20 Mb
I thought about Eoip 1st but, i tested it and i couldn’t get the MTU to get it to work. I couldn’t browse the internet from the other end of the Eoip tunnel, the pages were only loading partially or not at all.
I tried the vpls version and it worked with an MTU of 1522 without a problem. I work in the networking field, but i haven’t worked with MPLS before.
In any case a router who could pass 20 Mb of vpls traffic without having the cpu at 100%. I have a spare 750G and a 751, but not sure if are enough. A 450G would be for sure.
