I have a customer I am trying to assist that has a RB1100AHx2 Router with RouterOS v6.17 installed. The router was installed by a previous support person who is no longer with the company… (Customers company) and they do not know the password. Is there a way of resetting the routers password without having to lose all of the configuration that was done on the router…
do you have some backupfiles of the configuration ?
with the old backup files it was possible to get the password.
can’t you just ask the password ?
There is no hardware password reset built into Router-board. The reset button will reset the router to factory defaults. If there were other users setup on the router with read/write privileges, you can log in as one of them and change the admin password.
It will be silly to allow reseting the password without loosing (probably sensitive) configuration.
You can only reset it along with configuration.
I see another problem here - someone who’s not working for company anymore may still have an access to internal network. It’s a huge security risk.
Hi,
If you reset the router with the jumper, it should create a backup before reset file.
There is a way to get the password from the backup file.
It good and bad that you can get the password form a backup file.
I don’t want to post a link but a quick google search should point you in the right direction
