RB112 and RB133 100% CPU Usage

Hi I recently upgraded 2 Routerboards to 3.27, after which both routerboards took almost 5 minutes to boot, and after that took almost 1 minute to log in via telnet, ssh, or winbox, if it did not disconnect beforehand.
The CPU usage was at 100% all the time, I managed to disable all packages that where not necessary, but still the CPU ran at 100%.

I have since downgraded to 2.9.51 which is working correctly.

Does anyone know why this may happen, and how to fix it?

Thanks

RB112 is just too slow for new OS. It is the same as trying to run Windows XP on Pentium100.

Thanks, I figured as much, but why then is there an option to download for the RB100 series. Should it not be removed, or at least some info regarding the speed.

It’s not like new version doesn’t work on RB112 at all. You can run it with minimal set of packages, but CPU load will be high most of the time.

No, you cannot use it. It is so slow even with minimal packages!
Anyway, I mean the RB112 is outdated anyway.

Thanks for the quick response.
Much Appreciated.

Yes. I’ve done this tests, too. It leads to the same result.
So customers with RB133 stay at 2.9.51.

RB500 with 266/399 MHz runs fine with 3.x versions.
They are still fast enough to route the traffic of
a 20MHz Channel through using nstreme.

ROS 3.2x seems to work better if I keep the bios at 2.14.
I’m using ROS version 3.28 on a rb133C3 with very little lag here. 7-12% CPU

Steve,

Thanks for the info, will give it a try and post my findings.

I’m also interested in you result…
I’m currently running v3.30 on RB133C, and didn’t notice huge difference. Occasionally, I saw 30% or so.

Does anyone recommend or not recommend v4.2 for RB133C and RB333?

I confirm that Router OS 4.3 works fine in RB133c, used as AP (I still have some of the preproduction samples, with L4 on them).
Used with advanced-tools, dhcp, hotspot, routerboard, security, system and wireless packages.
Firmware 2.14.

Cpu usage 5%-15%, minimal load on the ap at the testing moment.

Forgot to mention.
On RB333 works just fine, from the begining.
That is powerfull enough not to give you any problems.

i have an rb112 too (wlan, eth) - works with ros 4.3 (no prob with 10 mbit) but login takes 1-5 min and sometimes login aborts or disconnects (even in idle usage) - cpu usage tells 1% :frowning:
looks like ros 4 does not really like rb1xx.

Tried with the bootloader 2.14, from previous links ?

3.30 runs HORRIBLE on an RB112, they should offer a download of 2.97 on the site for those who were foolish enough to install it.

Is there anything stopping you to downgrade ?

see above, many people report that it works perfect even with v4. adjust your configuration to be more efficient, and remove packages you don’t need.

Your mileage will vary between versions. 4.13 is better than 3.30. 5rc
is worse again.

Tested 4.14. Cant uninstall unused packages on RB112.

Netinstall should help. use packages from “all-packages” zip file, and only install system, wireless and maybe advanced tools.

Yes. But not for cpe’s at customer sites.
Downgraded to 4.13 and uninstalled packages.
