Thank You very much.

RB Model: RB1200
RouterOS to install: 5.23
RouterBoot: 3.02 or failover primary routerboot
Situation: RB lost all the interfaces, i made a upgrade for RouterOS 5.23 and then an upgrade of firmware, Routerboard not boot anymore. I entered with serial cable and change the boot option, the router request bootp, Netinstall fails.
Netinstall running on ubuntu with wine with root user

Did you try out to connect to the RB1200 over Winbox using both methods like IP and MAC address?

I have same issue with wine + netinstall in Ubuntu 12.04 with rb750g. I suppose it is not rb hardware dependant and eighter a wine or netinstall.exe problem. wine was started as root and using netstat I could see that its bound to the proper bootp port. I had to use windows for netinstall. In case I didnt have one already, that would add another 100+ Euro cost to the TCO of RB750g.

Is netinstall supposed to work with wine?

The RB is detected using MAC in netinstall. The problem is after clicking the install button. The RB sends bootp requests but netinstall FAILS TO REPLY

Hello again,

The RB is detected using MAC in netinstall. The problem is after clicking the install button. The RB sends bootp requests but netinstall FAILS TO REPLY

in your position I would like to try out the following.

  • Connect to the RB1200 via Winbox and Mac address
  • Give the RB1200 a valid IP address
  • Make sure that the firewall from the Linux OS is disabled or opened for this action.
  • Make sure that the Linux machine is also in the same subnet!
that means with a valid IP from the subnet the RB1200 is in!!!
    As an example:
    RB1200 192.168.1.1/24
    Linux machine 192.168.1.2/24

Follow exactly all the points that are named here:

Watch out the first picture, did you enable the boot server function!?

Yes, but fail.

And as RB do not boot, only one beep, winbox do not help!

To do a proper reset, you must open the case. This is explained in the guide:
http://routerboard.com/pdf/308/rb1200ug.pdf

The Winbox tool can connect to the router using the MAC address.
If you manage to connect in this way, you can set back IP address or reset configuration.

Hi, in my case, the RB750g was bricked by doing “partitioning”.
No Firewall active in Linux (I`m 100% sure).
The RB was connected to my Laptop using a patch cable (yes I have autosening crossover…)
I had Wireshark open to see whats going on, as I wanted to see how netinstall works (was my first time using it)
There was no problem with the RB as netinstall worked fine from Windows7 on the first attempt (same machine).

The issue is wine or how netinstall and wine play together. It could be also issue in Ubuntus Wine only but I do have only Ubuntu around me…

all best,
przent

Really good advice, why I was not thinking on! Really good.

yes, The problem of netinstall is wine.
And i success with routerboard package 5.22 with serial cable and netinstall on windows 7 without firewall and without antivirus.

If you are interested using the DUDE, you can also easily upgrade your RouterOS or plain many RouterBoards!
