RB133 for P2P and Multipoint.

Dear all,

I am very newbie to routerboard product. i would like to use Rb133 for Point to multipoint network.
1 Wifi card is for Backbone link and one for Service. It is possible ?

If i buy rb133 , will come with pre-installed routerboard software?
only i just add to wifi card and configure it?

many thanks in advance,

koko

Yes it will work no problem. Although you could spend 20 bucks more and get the Rb433 work MUCH better and 5 x faster.

Yes The software is already on the routerboard when you get it. (usually)

Yes you will have to congiure your wifi cards ap-bridge station/. whatever you want it to be. Read the manual for more help in setting up your Routerboard and cards. -Jordan

thankyou very much to Jordantrx.

my project is still in planning. We are trying to use WLAN technology for Rural Communication network, where no Telephone network & internet.

the Dictator Goverment will not implement communication network in that area. :frowning: :frowning:

anyway.. i have my question…

  1. For ca. 20 Km distance p2p connection , what kind of mini PCI network card should i use?

  2. 5 Ghz will be better?

  3. Shall RB133/RB443 work with my old LinksysWRT54GL (DD-wrt) as a client router??

  4. Can i also use Ubiquiti Nano 2 for client side.?

    many thank in advance,

regards,

koko

  1. For a 20 km link. I would go with the Sr5 or Xr5 Ubiquiti card or R52H from mikrotik.

  2. 5Ghz will give your faster throughput and more bandwidth to use. However the link has to be LOS (line of sight) if it is not LOS you should use 900 Mhz.

  3. This deal more with the wireless card than the routerboards themselfs. Most cards use the atheros chipset. and i do beleive linksys uses the same chipset and i hear people on the fourms that use them should they should work with the atheros chipset.

  4. Yes you can i do beleive they use the atheros chipset. However I think you would be better off to use Mikrotik routerboards for your CPE’s they are very cost affective and you can use the Dude with SNMP and keep track of your network better. I was going to go the same way you where but as i got more into it i found mikrotik routerboards would work best if i used them throughout my entire network. But this is a decision you have to make.

Hope i answered most of your questions. Good luck. -Jordan
