RB192 replacement??

What is the replacement for the RB 192? meaning something in its price class, of course.

Paul

There has been talk of a RB493 but not real soon. There are still plenty of RB192 on distributor shelves as the RB192 was not a very fast seller. I personally want to see a RB493AH. And give me Gig ethernet ports as a bonus.

Tom

It was at a good price point, and I am hopefull they stay in that range

Paul

The this is that the RB192 did not sold well cause it was underpowerd to be used as a POP Router, but I can say that if a RB492AH would be available , it would be a great seller as a POP Router. We used to use the RB532 with daughtercard for this… now its gone.

We used the RB192 in multi-tennant office buildings, serving internet to many offices each with its own firewalled private subnet and NATd to Static (Routable Internet) IPs. They pass about 12+ Mbit to a client which is more than sufficient, seing the radio feeding it only does 10Mbit.

Works great… great price

Agreed paulchops. Great router, or small businesses at a great price. But ginovilla is correct also. Because the RB192 was too underpowered to run as a wPOP router where I am using OSPF. That is the place where I really want at least 9 ethernet ports and some power. So please Mikrotik make me a RB492AH or RB493AH for Christmas. In the mean time, we can still find plenty of inexpensive RB192s for small business routers and other applications where 8 or 9 eth ports are needed. I am installing 4 RB192s later this week for electronic ticket booths at an air show.

FYI The RB493 is a real product now. It begins shipping to distributors early August 2008.

Just a bit more expensive than the RB192.

Tom

I just asked my supplier if he has one on stock.

Would like to know the speed difference. For now i got 2 RB192 for VPN / WAN / NAT. But on one location i would like more speed on the router.

2 to 4 times faster depending on packet size and featurtes used according to July 2008 Mikrotik RouterBoard Test Results page.

Use RB433 compared to RB133 which should equate to RBG493 vs RB192.

I have been waiting a long time for these. I am excited that they are finally arriving.
