I’ve recently bought an RB2011L-in routerboard. From the start there were some problems with wrong leds lighting up so I decided to try and do a firmware update.
After doing this update, the routerboard just died. I’m not getting an ip-address on my laptop (directly plugged into the routerbox) neither is the routerbox asking for an ip-address from my dhcp-enabled router.
I’ve tried setting up the ip-address manually on my laptop (192.168.88.10) hoping to connect to the routerboard (which had a default ip of 192.168.88.1 on arrival and ever since). That didn’t work.
Then I tried resetting the routerboard in all different ways (push reset button, hold reset button while booting) didn’t work either.
Eventually I opened the RB and used a screwdriver to reset it (both while it was on and when it was booting). Needless to say, that didn’t work either.
Is there any other way for me to get to the setup page of my RB?
Two things you should try. If it simply lost configuration, open Winbox, click the “browse” button and see if it will find the router MAC address. If yes, connect to the MAC and configure it.
Other method would be to attempt a Netinstall procedure. Hold the reset button, apply power, keep holding the button for 30 seconds, release it. Then launch Netinstall program and see if it finds the router. http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Netinstall
I feel for you. Ive been dealing a lot with the rb2011’s only had one issue and it was a boot glitch with an older firmware. the resolve was to indeed reset it and then upgrade the firmware. The netinstall can be tricky with these and so can resetting the default config. I know its a pain in th ass but if you have it in a case. strip the top shell off and make sure you can hold in the reset button firmly and give it a couple more tries. one thing i noticed is sometimes the reset button would stick in the in position.
what happens when you turn it on currently also might i suggest trying port 6 when you connect to it. for some reason ive had better success with using that first fast ethernet port instead of one of the giga ports.
