I’ve been using a Mikrotik RB2011UAS-2HnD for several years now and it worked great with my 70Mbps Internet connection. I’ve now upgraded my Internet to GIG speeds (1,000+Mbps) and the router worked decent for this. With FastTrack enabled I can get around 900Mbps with a Ethernet connection. The wireless is only around 100Mbps which isn’t optimal.
My 1st issue is the router seems to steadily degrade in performance over time. For example right now I’ve getting full speeds, but later tonight my speeds will drop significantly and after a router reboot speeds will return. I’m not sure what causing this. I assume this router is under powered for GIG speeds. The wireless is really slow to as it isn’t 802.11ac compatible.
I’m looking for a new home router but it doesn’t seem like Mikrotik makes anything with 802.11ac and improved specs for GIG connections.
If anyone has any suggestions on why my router slows over time, or a suggestion on a better Mikrotik router which would be more capable of handling my connection and improving wireless speeds.
I’ve seen threads on here where people reported that they were able to achieve 1Gbps / Full duplex (i.e. 2Gbps of real throughput) with firewall rules enabled using a hEX (RB750Gr3) router.
I decided to snag one for evaluation purposes and it just hit my desk 5 minutes ago. I’m interested to see whether our current standard set of firewall rules / queue trees for CPE will perform this well on the platform. If so, then we just found our new standard CPE.

It does… If you want to upgrade wireless too, a hAP ac is what you are looking for.
Difficult to say where performance degradation comes from. Have you inspected CPU/RAM usage on “weak” times? What’s the ROS version? What’s the firmware version?
Thanks everyone for your input. Going to checkout the Mikrotik hAP AC. I accidentally purchased the Mikrotik hAP AC Lite from Amazon and realized it wasn’t GIG… Haha. Now I’m ordering the Mikrotik hAP AC. Will report back. Thanks again.
