I upgraded my Mikrotik and am currently running 6.4.1. I am trying to use a port on my device to connect to another unmanaged switch. I didn’t run enough ethernet and it’s currently not an option to run more so I have a unmanaged LinkSys switch that I am trying to use. I connect the run for the wall jack into the RB2011 and connect the jack to a port on the switch. All ports are configured to be part of the bridge-local. When I connect the two I am not getting a link detected on the wire. Connect it up to a server or anything else and violla I have a connection.
I cannot figure out for the life of me what I am doing wrong and I believe I have my config setup properly. Any help would be appreciated on this!
To summarize - if you take a particular Ethernet port on the Mikrotik and a particular Ethernet cable and connect a server to that port using that cable, the Ethernet port on Mikrotik goes up. If you remove the cable from the server and connect it to any of the ports of the Linksys switch, the Ethernet port on Mikrotik remains down. Correct?
If so, could it be that you have restricted the negotiable speed and duplex settings on the Mikrotik to values not supported by the Linksys? What Linksys model in particular are we talking about?
That is correct. No link is detected and no traffic is passed between any of the devices on the switch.
I’ll have to check when I get home but it’s a unmanaged dumb switch. I currently have all duplexes available on the port from 10Mbps to 1000Mbps half and full. The switch does support up to 100Mbps.
Even if the switch was so very old that it would not automatically choose between MDI and MDI-X, the Mikrotik is not, which should suffice for the two to establish a link. If connecting the server to a port of the Linksys using the very same cable causes the port on the Linksys go up, I’ve run out of ideas. If it doesn’t, the switch (or, more likely, just its power adaptor) is broken.
Most likely was. Not able to make a crossover with how everything is run currently. I went ahead and picked up a business class switch for pretty cheap and everything is working as expected now.
