RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN USB not delivering 5v 500ma

Hello all, I own a RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN, which features a micro USB connector, using the included adaptor I can plug a USB 2.5" hard drive for samba share, the hard drive becomes unstable (weird noises inside the disc)

I think it is related to RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN not providing 5v 500ma from the usb port, leading to USB hard drive crash. Tried different hard drives, same results.

buying the mikrotik usb 5v power injector may solve the issue but I don’t want that solution.

For the record, it worked flawlessly on my old RB751 which features a regular size USB connector.

Have happened this to anyone? any suggestion/solution?

Thank you in advice

Try with more powerfull power supply.

I guess 500ma is not enough to spin up the hdd. It is known that usb powering is usually very weak on mikrotiks, for running hdd you need external power supply.

What is the problem to use a external powered usb hub.
If the performance is good see a not a problem with this

Hello, thank you for help, I will try another mikrotik power supply, even some usb usb flash drives become unstable due to lack of power, If I connect a usb hub with external supply it work flawlessly, I was trying to avoid the external supply because I don’t want that much wiring, thank you all

Just for the record, changing the power supply to a bigger MA one makes no difference, external power to USB port must be applied somehow, thank you!

This is the best senareo and the most stable solution.
Goodluck

running on 12 or 24v volts ?

24 [V] via POE should give a stable 5 [V] in the USB port? I have to try it!!! .

UPDATE:

Don’t works for me. :frowning:

tried 12v 1500ma and 24v 1500 ma both via jack, both failed
too, just like the included power supply,

I tried another microusb to usb adaptor, not the included one, still fails!

Powered usb hub is the solution
