When testing the RB2011UiAS-RM with LCD turned on I get random ping spikes and CPU runs ± 10% without passing any traffic.
Looking at tool>profile I can see SPI and unclassified ±5% each.
I know that SPI is for the LCD but a few versions earlier I don’t think unclassified was involved, when turning the LCD off, both unclassified and SPI go to 0% and ping and CPU returns normal.
Also, my LCD is set to display only one screen and that is my WAN traffic, nothing else.
The ping spikes aren’t high but It’s just really annoying knowing that there are ping spikes and can also affect different traffic and also don’t get the same throughput as I would when LCD off.
I see what you are saying but the thing is for the people who purchased the specific model that has the LCD screen now cannot make use of it if they want full performance which is not great at all, same thing with me, I use the LCD to check throughput without having the need to login all the time.
Yes there is a performance drop with the LCD turned on, I have tested it.
Each time the screen is drawn, the cpu can jump ~5%. We can optimize how often it is re-drawn, but some kind of CPU increase will be there, because any action requires the CPU. This includes all things you do in the device.
I understand but the 5% CPU draw should not cause ping spikes and affect performance by a large amount.
The ~5% are spikes and not solid CPU draw, with the LCD on and a spike not hit yet, the overall performance is affected without the spike happening yet.
I can run the router at 90% and sometimes 100% CPU draw and still have 0-1ms latency with the LCD off.
Returning a long post but this never was fixed as just had same with new unit on latest RouterOS. The spike tends to be when the stats screen is shown. Doesn’t seem as noticeable with the main page. I’ve configured the touchscreen to turn off after 5 mins, not the default of 30.
Can confirm.
Just got the old rb2011uias-2hnd and spend like a day figuiring out why i have those annoying ping spikes. I intsalled latests ROS7 than ROS6, OC CPU and check the config like several times and nothing helped (my screen was always stayed turned on). Thanks for reddit - some person said that if you turn off the screen, those annying ping spikes will dissapear. And yes they finally disappear when i did that!
