RB250G

I have a new 250G that I am trying to set up as a backup to our current one. I made a backup file of the current setup and saved it to my PC. Then I got into the new one via web interface 192.168.88.1. I downloaded the file to the new router and then it rebooted. After the reboot I was not able to get online with it, nor did the configuration work when I tried it out.

I wanted to try doing it again, so I tried to reset it. It will not reset. When I remove power, then stick the screwdriver tip in the hole, and apply power, it will never show any blinking lights. I have literally sat there for quite a few mins holding it with no avail. I have tried applying the screwdriver then removing power, also tried power on then the screwdriver. There are a few intermittent times when the lights blink when I move the screwdriver around on the traces in the hole. But its just a quick blink on then off. Never a steady on, or steady blinking.

Not sure how to proceed. Not sure why it allowed me on the first time, but then just quit after the download. Love to know how to do a hard reset that would work.

Thanks

Which one do I download? I am not finding the 250GS on the download list. Also, according to the info, the using the reset function on the board itself is supposed to do the same thing. Neither the button on front, nor the hole you put a screwdriver across two contacts does anything to restore to factory defaults.

Any other idea’s?

Thanks. Maybe I am not being clear enough on the situation. I cannot, in any way shape or form, get into the 250G via Ethernet. Whatever happened when I tried to swap out backup files between my current(working) 250G, and the new(topic of discussion) 250G, made it to where I cannot get into the new one.

Seeing how Ethernet is the only means of communication with the switch, the only option I can see is a total system reset. However, it seems that I cannot figure out how to reset the system.

I know its kind of pointless really. These things are only $50. But it would be nice to know if there is a way of doing it if someone who really needs to get one up and running comes along and see’s this thread. None of the two previous options work when you cannot connect to the routerboard itself.

I hope this makes things a little clearer now.

Well I figured out part of it. I had no idea I had a RB750 currently. I guess the two just look so much alike that I figured they were the same. I feel ignorant. I also, after research, see where you have to take out all MAC addressing when trying to swap configurations. All a learning experience to me. Still not sure why it wont reset, but it must have to do with me trying to put the backup file from the RB750 on the RB250.
