RB250GS Trunk with other Switch (eg. Dell PowerConnect 2824)

Hi All,

Has anybody successfully connected RB250GS with PowerConnect with VLAN? Is RB250GS compatible with Dell PowerConnect?

Will be doing that this afternoon, funnily enough. But without having done it there should not be an issue. They both implement 802.1q as a standard. They should absolutely be compatible.

Currently I have below hardware in my network

  1. Alix with RouterOS 4.16
  2. Dell PowerConnect 2824
  3. A pair of HL108E
  4. Linksys 5port switch (going to replace with RB250GS and activate VLAN.
  5. ADSL ModemRouter
  6. Cable Model

I have successfully enabled vlan on alix, dell switch and adsl modem router.

Port 1: ADSL Modem Router (Vlan 3, Untagged), DHCP Server
Port 2: Alix RouterOS (Vlan 3, Tagged). interface on alix connected to switch is configured with 2 subif for vlan 3 and 5, and both running dhcp client.
Port 3: Cable Modem (vlan 5, Untagged), DHCP Server

Currently, i have problem getting ip address on subif on alix for vlan 5 where dhclient return no address. vlan 3 working fine.
