I have a RouterBoard 260GS (5 port switch) running version 1.9. It’s sole purpose is to be like a Tap. I want to insert the 260GS into a link/segment using ports 1 & 2. And have a copy of all frames sent through port 5.
I want to be sure other features are correct for “genuine Network Tap”* behaviour including:
- disable STP (I don’t want any BPDU’s being tx on ports 1 or 2)
- hardcode speed and duplex
- ideally disable switch management on all ports except 5 (the switch will be hardware reset if it needs to be used for other purposes)
I have successfully through the WebGUI setup port mirroring but I cannot see how to disable STP. I imagine I need to use CLI which I will try now and report back my findings.
In case my searching has failed and somebody has already explained how to disable STP or configure the RB 260GS with the most appropriate settings for “Tap” like behaviour then please provide a link.
- I appreciate the RB260GS is a switch that is able to copy/span/mirror traffic to an output port and is not a genuine Tap
