RB260GSP but 802.3af/at version

Is there any chance that Mikrotik release RB260 but active poe version ?

I had many installations that required 5 port poe switch, and i would like to use Mikrotik there instead of TP-Link, D-Link or Hikvision…

I know there is CSS610-8P-2S+IN but at around 230 euros it’s to pricey for some basic installations…

You can use the RB960PGS:

Correct me if I’m wrong but the OP would also need the 48V power adapter for active PoE as well. https://mikrotik.com/product/48v2a96w

Yea, that’s an option but, at about 100-110 euros plus power brick which is about 15-20 euros more that’s too expensive to justify…

Also, here I have additional configuration because it’s running ROS…

With 50-60 euros price tag i could justify to use Mikrotik.

What is the price difference between using the hex Poe with power brick vs. using a non-poe model with Poe injectors?

Again, not practical, imagine you have small enclosure, you put switch, adapter and cables are coming in, now with injectors you need to split power and you need to power your non poe switch with yet another adaptor and at the end you have cable mess inside your box.

Also with two devices you need to power two power bricks, and trust me, sometimes that can be a challenge.

Is your concern on price or power outlets needed? If you could utilize a hex Poe with the 48V power adapter then that should be enough to provide power to the device plus the five ports and only utilizing a single power outlet. The price will be higher but you have the power of router OS and managing everything through one device

Don’t forget the price of power injectors.
They are not free.

At the end hex poe + power brick may come out cheaper and more efficient.

Sometimes you don’t need the power of ROS, and in this use case simple unmanaged switch is enough. Sometimes you need cheaper and reliable solution, for eg RB260GSP but 48V output

At 50-60 euros RB260GSP would be great and more trustworthy PoE switch. Only if there is 48V version.

Well to answer your original question MT does offer a product but not within your price range so you have to find a product that better fits your needs.

a new version of an endless history, the journey to find for a cheap manageable small PoE switch…

Now with PoE +/PoE Plus

is a Chimera

I mean, I have TP-Link and other brands but I had few of them fail so Im search of something more reliable aka Mikrotik.

Maybe my wishes come true one day…

Alternative is to use power injector unit, that can power multiple connections (in/out pairs), such as:

  • Cyberteam ADAG-4P-D 802.3af/at,
  • Cyberteam ADAG-8P-D,
  • Cyberteam SPG-8P-D 802.3af/at, NetProtector PoE 8x GLAN - this is also a surge protector.

Agree, it requires much more space and that can be problem, if the switch should pass PoE-in power, besides ethernet connection, further via PoE-out to APs, and the switch is located in some cramped space.

However, in racks,… dedicated PoE multi-injector might be a viable alternative.

Nobody would be more happier than me that every switch I install is in the rack

In reality its more like basements, warehouses, some of them are outside in custom made enclosures.
