This might be a little crazy. I have an RB3011, it has two internal switches.
I have a need for a second router that’s disconnected from my main one at home, and I don’t really use the second switch in the RB3011. Can I just create a second bridge with a DHCP server/client and use it as a 2 in 1? BridgeHome - Eth1-5, and BridgeLab Eth6-10. I’m guessing I would have to block traffic between the two bridges? Is this a bad idea?
Sounds plausible to me.
The worst case scenario is that you discover there is a performance hit that is not acceptable and you purchase a low budget managed switch…
Absolutely, that is the purpose of this hardware. If you have a speed issue, as pointed out, then you can make adjustments. Keep everything on the same switch group if you can, then it can hit the CPU to get out to WAN. If you need to hit the other bridge, I don’t think it will be that bad for one or two ports at a time.
