RB3011UiAS can't connect from itself to internet

Hi,

I'm using this kind a router to connect my network to the internet. So far so good.

But I can't perform a package update, cause the router won't connect to the internet itself.

May be it's just a struggle with the NAT rules or similar with the firewall rules, but I can't believe this.

I have to admit, that any manual package update do not work, either providing an arm64 (the router isn't) or an arm32 only, the router won't access the packge at all.

Hence I'm a bit lost in getting the correct package and will make use of the direct connecttion to upgrade my packages.

If there is any other topic to consult, please advice. I couldn't find any so far.

Thanks for any hint,

Michael

If they were asking you the same thing,
wouldn't you at least tell them what version the router is currently running?
How much free space is there inside /files?
Which file was used?
What's written in the logs after copying the file and rebooting?

Ask us for hints, but you're actually the one who has to provide them.

Currently it's the version 7.18 and I'd like to update on 7.25.3.

Currently 44MB of 128MP occupied.

I used follwing files: routeros-7.23.5-arm.npk and routeros-7.23.5-arm64.npk

The logfiles tell me somthing about a missing wireless package, but I can't find such an package.

As you can see on this page you should use the arm and not arm64.
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB3011UiAS-RM

And if you are little handy do your self a favor and use the netinstall to install the RouterOS from scratch.

And on the product page you also see that the version that is stable and recommended from Mikrotik is:
https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/7.24.2/routeros-7.24.2-arm.npk

And start easy and start also from the default setup.

"AND"?
NOT!
only one, and only "arm"-only

Oops, I found the package meanwhile and applied it. The router has now 7.25.3. Blame myself....

But the internet connection directly from the router isn't working, which was my initial intend to raise the ticket.

Don't waste people's time (about ticket), untill you are sure that is not your fault.
You probably haven't set up your DNS server or you've set a rule that blocks the router itself.
Does on inside router "tool/ping" pinging 1.1.1.1 work? And typing one.one.one.one directly?

I tried a ping on various internet hosts but none of them worked.

Sorry for wasting your time.

You don't understand. I didn't say you were wasting my (our) time, but don't contact support until you are sure that is one bug.
First, let's see if there's a configuration error in the router...
If the devices connected to the router work, but the router itself doesn't, maybe there's something misconfigured, rather than a bug...

So logic dictates...

Does on inside router "tool/ping" pinging 1.1.1.1 work? And typing one.one.one.one directly?

I asked these two specifically, since with "various internet hosts" I don't know what you tried to ping.

Take a backup of your config, there are lots of threads about how to do that.
And then reset the router to it's default settings, and start from there.

Or do like everyone does in this forum, they share there config without any secrets.

Do a /export file=filename from the terminal and get the file and edit the file, and then paste the content into this forum, between the code tags characters

/export file=anynameyouwish (minus router serial number, any public WANIP information, keys, dhcp lease lists)

My config with my firewall rules is exceeding the maximum entries here. I first have to shorten my firewall list before I can provide a config.

And try to ping either google on its two ip addresses and some other webpage I can access with my PC.

If your firewall list is that long, its probably bloated and in need of TLC. I have a big carving knife.
/export file=anynameyouwish (minus router serial number, any public WANIP information, keys, dhcp lease lists.
export, open in notepadd++ then make any needed mods as per above. then post the file.

I still can't provide my config. Its about 80000 line but 32... are only allowed.

I've got it. Killed firewall and scripts.

Btw: I defined a new firewall rule to trace any icmp protocol. But the ping from my router isn't logged at all.

No idea until we clean up the mess. Its too difficult to see the rose with so many weeds.

The secondary brige is for upcoming tests only. IPv6 isn't used currently, but I'm will do some experiments with it in the future, since my provider will switch over to IPv6.

I wasn't aware this entry in my dhcp server (not necessary, cause I have WAN side a static IP) --> removed

I have no experience with raw rules in regards to my firewall. Since I have to support a mail server and webserver I have to make use of various firewall rules.

If this is much more easier with raw rules, I might have to learn how to use them.

But do you think think this is the issue why I can't connect to the internet directly from my router?

Why not simply start from default ?
It is a perfectly working config.

And I believe it already has been suggested ...

Running your own mail server and webserver these days is going to attract bots and abuse. AKA a losing battle from my perspective.
What is that you want to share or do?
I would first ask is this for friends/family and if so, then three options come to mind.
Create a wireguard server and have them securely get to the router and then direct them to the servers as required in a safer manner.
Second option is zerotier an optional package for RoS, that basically creates a secure LAN between users and your router ( the resources you make available).
Third option, would be to run cloudflares zero trust tunnel which is specifically designed to host servers but not expose your ports to the internet, MAGIC, and cheeses me off MT didnt make this as a package like zerotier. It can only be run as a container and now that MT seems to have a pretty decent stable container like process it may be viable.

ONe has to consider the pain for the individual and their device.
Most complex would be wiregard
Zerotier is an easier app download and minor settings.
Cloudflare is basically transparent ( another reason I wish MT had adopted this method ).

Besides, the difficulty the other main concern is wireguard is completely self-sufficient.
Zerotier and cloudflare rely on third party entities.

What I am saying is you need to ditch opening your ports to the internet
