RB333 - how powerful is it?

Time is here to do some planning for a new network.

This involves a PtP link (Nstreme or NStreme Dual) of about 5 km connected to fiber, and I would therefore like to squeeze as much speed as possible out of the backhaul link.

I would like to run User Manager at this main router, and have a number of clients connecting via PPPoE.
Later on I’ll possibly connect another AP/PPPoE AC via PtP NStreme, authenticating against the main router.

Will the RB333 handle this load?
I know that number of MiniPCIs might restrict me when it comes to several links, but what I’m mostly concerned of is CPU usage.

Is there a rule of thumb regarding when the RB333 comes to short, forcing me to move to PC platform?
I guess the RB600 will take me further but I need to deploy using what is available now, not next year.
But I would like to be on the safe side to avoid rebuilding later on due to lack of CPU power.

Can you recommend any PC mobos suitable for the task?

if it wher me and only 1 ptp shot then id run duel nstream on both sides and then have a pc based board as your core router running usermanager and pppoe, if you really wanted to be nice to your cpus you could run a pc based version for usermanager and then another mt board as yur core router along with the 333 running nstream
mt333ap----mt333ap----mtusermanagerpppoepcbased----mt532a or mt333 or pcbased or even 133 as your core router

Thanks natedogg104.

From your experience, do you think Dual Nstreme backhaul, User manager and a PPPoE AC for let’s say 50 wireless clients all on one RB333 will cause a CPU hit?

We have a pair of RB333 as our main feed with 1700 2-5mbit clients and it works great. But we had to use nstreme with polling to get the link to work properly but now it is the fastest SBC I have ever used. Much faster than WAR, RB500 etc.

hmm i dont know how well it will handle 50 users and nstream dual , if it were me on that situation id gp for a pc based system or seperate the services, like run a ap in front of it to hold your clients. Let me know how it works for you though

How many Mbps up/down and how many PPS is this link pushing? Is there any congestion/jitter/packet loss? Is it routing or wds bridge?

Thanks for comments boys.

I’ll start out with a single RB333 on each side. Then I’ll add another board later if necessary.

I’ll keep you posted.
