Hello! First post here!

So, as topic comes and goes regularly. This router is a great device, but lacks of storage.

I have wifi version, with active mPCIe slot. This slot has only one PCIexpress gen2 lane connected, no USB, no native SATA lanes are available. This is why no mSATA ssd will work, and no USB device will work.
However, i have put ASMedia ASM 1064 contoller, and it is propely detected. This gives me 4 sata ports. I have connected normal 2,5 inch SATA drive to it, and it also is normally detected. My problem is, that when i try to format, whole router restarts. And i can not do anything.

How to start troubleshooting? Might it be insufficient 3V3 power supply? This ASM chip gets hot as hell. Or might it me some driver incompatybility?

What I would do (not necessarily right BTW) would be to get an old, el-cheapo SATA/PATA “external USB” kit. loosely this kind (example):

and try powering the hard disk from its PSU.
(the new kind have a single connector for SATA including power and are not suitable).

I have same problem with mini pci-e to nvme adapter and nvme drive.

I did used separate 5V converter for the SSD. It takes power directly from AC brick.

Isn’t it better to buy surplus NAS to have LAN storage? Additional external PSU, money spent on adapter, not a stable service. Is it worth troubles?

No, it is not. I am not planning to use this storage as NAS. It will host homeassistant and some other small things. But still 5-6GB. So obviously need of SSD instead of grinding internal NAND.

Power supply leave to me, i will add additional converter for that. I am running main 24V/4A brick from Delta, instead of original one, as it was 2/10 quality.

BTW, i got at least few L009s or similar, and all of them come with utter disastrous quality power brick.
