RB4011 dead?

Hi folks,

last week I started to configure a RB4011iGS+RM using Winbox. One of the first steps was to update the RB4011 to the current stable firmware 6.47.1 which worked without problems. Then I started to explore the configuration options while at the same time I studied the online manual and a video tutorial describing first steps.

Suddenly I was thrown off of Winbox. Any attempts to reconnect to the RB4011 resulted in “ERROR: could not connect to 192.168.88.1”. Rebooting the RB4011 and/or the PC did not help. So I tried Netinstall. At my first attempts I got the router to appear with its MAC address in Netinstall, but the installation of RouterOS did not seem to work: At every first attempt, the install button seemed to do nothing. At every second attempt, the install seemed to work; Netinstall showed “Formatting harddrive…”, “Transferring routeros-arm-6.47.1.npk”, “Done” etc. But when I rebooted the RB4011, I was still unable to connect using Winbox or get a response to a ping.

The IP address I gave the PC is 192.168.88.42, the net boot server IP is 192.168.88.3. The default IP of the RB4011 is 192.168.88.1 so I assume I should get an answer when I ping 192.168.88.1. The PWR LED is on, the LED of the LAN port 1 (where the PC is connected) is flashing green.

Is the RB4011 sort of dead?

try netinstall with some older ros…

If it still appears in Winbox, you could try connecting through the MAC address. If not, a netinstall with an older ROS version might indeed fix it.

Connecting through the MAC address was the solution!

I saw screenshots of older versions of Winbox where you could switch between IP and MAC address, but the current Winbox 3.24 looked to me as if it would only accept IP addresses. So I did not try to connect through IP address.

Thank you very much!
