RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN - Eth4 not working

Hello,

Recently i have noticed that on my RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN one of the ports doesn’t work (eth4).

I have made new instalation in my home and tested cables with the simple cable tester from ebay (with 9V battery).

Because i did not disconnect the tester before i pluged the cable directly into the router. i have then noticed that the computer recognises that the cable is pluged in but does not recive any IP. On the router i can see LED blinking but internet is not working. In the “interface” section it doesn’t show “R” simbol by the port when the computer is connected. I have tried connecting cable to another port and it works normal. I have also tried to turn off the router and back on but did not help.

Is it possible that i have damaged the Eth4 port with the tester? Can it be fixed or is it just turned of?

The answer is:Yes, you could have destroyed the port. Cheap testers are cheap testers. 9V could have blown up the port.

Is there a way to diagnose it?

Is it worth fixing?

You have diagnosed it already It does not work. Fixing… if you do not need that port just disable and forget it.

In such situations I insert RJ45 connector clamped with no cable (to fit into the socket) to prevent myself from inserting the cable into nonworking or intentionally disabled port. It visually shows which ports are available.

I wonderd if there can be anything seen in logs..

Interesting solution for just “empty” connector.

Lucky i have 4ports spare so the i will use other.
