Hi, I ve a RB411 that fails to boot, it reaches till “jumping to kernel code” and get there.
I 've formatted the NAND and try to use Netinstall. I got this mesages using Netinstall:
Upgrade firmware options:
e - upgrade firmware over ethernet
s - upgrade firmware over serial port
your choice: e - upgrade firmware over ethernet
trying bootp protocol… OK
Got IP address: 10.100.0.25
resolved mac address 00:40:63:F1:EC:6A
transfer started … transfer ok, time=1.80s
invalid upgrade file id
Upgrade firmware options:
e - upgrade firmware over ethernet
s - upgrade firmware over serial port
your choice: s - upgrade firmware over serial port
xmodem receiver ready, waiting for data…
press +X several times to cancel transfer
press any key to continue…
file transfer ok
invalid upgrade file id
------------------------------------------------------
As you can see I ve tried to upgrade via Ethernet and via Serial (xmodem) and got the same.
In case of Ethernet, I receive the error, before I can see the Mikrotik in Netinstall, and select the image to load.
I realized that via serial I can upgrade de routerboard firmware, but not the RouterOs version. So that was a mistake from me.
The only problem now is that when I try to use Netinstall, the routerboard never appears in Netinstall, neither the installer in the routerboard (the one that waits for a RouterOS image to download). So I never reach to select any image.
Anyway the image I would try to download is “routeros-mipsbe-3.10.npk” (10.169.709 bytes)
Well, I ve read the Netinstall documentation and procedure (before my first post).
To see the difference I do a Netinstall upgrade to another Routerboard that was ok, and this is the log :
trying bootp protocol… OK
Got IP address: 10.100.0.25
resolved mac address 00:40:63:F1:EC:6A
transfer started … transfer ok, time=1.49s
setting up elf image… OK
jumping to kernel code
Welcome to MikroTik Router Software remote installation
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to abort
After that, I saw the routerboard in the Netinstall window and do a succesful installation of routerOS package.
In the other hand, with the RB411 without kernel the log is (same PC running Netinstall and serial communication to RB, same cables, same power supply, etc) :
Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup..
kernel not found
trying bootp protocol… OK
Got IP address: 10.100.0.25
resolved mac address 00:40:63:F1:EC:6A
transfer started … transfer ok, time=1.83s
setting up elf image… OK
jumping to kernel code
…and get there. It never appears in the Netinstall window.
