RB411 No longer connects to my network

I’ve got a very strange problem.

One of my client’s RB411 / CM-9 / Poynting 20dBi integrated enclosure combo is having problems connecting.

First I must stress two things.

  1. The radio worked perfectly when we installed it and continued to work very well for months after that.
  2. The client thinks he’s clever and may or may not have tried to clock the board and damaged it in the process.

The client also has this nasty habit of unplugging the routerboard as and when he feels like it. So there could be some damage there.

Getting back to the problem.

Most of the time, the radio status area says “searching for network”.
If the radio does connect, it only connects at 6Mb. However, the Link is -70 and Overal CCQ is above 60%.
If the radio connects, it can’t ping the radio on the other side of the link.

I’ve tried swopping out the radio card. No luck.
I’ve removed all encryption on the wireless link. Still no luck.
I’ve checked all the TCP/IP settings and everything is good.

There is no reason that I can see as to why the routerboard can’t initiate a TCP/IP session once the radio link’s been established.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It’s running ver 4.9.

I’ve got the thing on the bench now and see that:

It’s unable to make a supout.rif and
System - Shutdown also doesn’t work.

I had a Crossroads that didn’t come up properly after a 4.9 upgrade.

The only packages that were installed was RouterOS and System. Nothing else was there or even grayed out.

I downgraded the system to 4.0 (what I had on hand at the time) and reconfigured.

Check to see if it installed all the packages, then the next step I would try is a system reset and see if it comes up properly, then try to reconfigure.

Things I would try:

-Have the AP and the client at the same OS version (ie/ 4.9).
If that does not fix any issues I would do a /system reset-configuration on the client and reset things up. I have had this solve weird issues, even though nothing has changed in months.
