I bought two 411’s yesterday from the same supplier. One had the raised radio card and the other had a flat radio card. All I want to know is which is newer, or if they are both still being produced?
One has a card socket / slot that is “short” ie when you insert your radio card, the card sits a couple of millimeters away from the board.
Then there is a second type of RB411 that has a different card socket that is the same heightt above the board as the card socket that you see on the new generation RB411AR, RB411U and the “bottom” card socket on the RB43x boards.
What I am trying to find out is whether the ones with the raised card sockets are newer production variants or whether it’s just a case of today low profile sockets are being used as that’s what the factory has while the next day raised sockets are used because that’s what the factory has?
The devices are made in batches. If some part is not available, we use another part. This could change in the next batch. I can’t guarantee that we will use a certain type of miniPCI connector in all upcoming production batches.
It makes no technical difference whatsoever to me. I was just wondering how it could be that I could buy two supposedly identical boards from the same supplier at the same time on the same day and get two totally different looking products.
Apparently the distributor had some devices left from the old stock, and some new devices that just came in. Technically the devices should be identical, there is only visual difference.
