RB411/U and the MC8790

Hi Everyone.

I’ve been struggling with this for a few weeks now. I cannot get my RB411/U to connect to my cellular carrier (Rogers) I have an MC8790 from Sierra wireless. As per some other posts on this forum I’ve updated to the latest cellular firmware, as well as updated to RouterOS 4.6. Here is my interface config as well as some output of the log

[admin@MikroTik] /interface ppp-client> print
Flags: X - disabled, R - running
 0    name="ppp-out1" max-mtu=1500 max-mru=1500 mrru=disabled port=usb3 data-channel=3 info-channel=0 apn="internet.com" pin="" user="wapuser1"
      password="wap" profile=default phone="*99***1#" dial-command="ATDT" modem-init="AT+CGDCONT=1" null-modem=no dial-on-demand=no
      add-default-route=yes use-peer-dns=yes allow=pap,chap,mschap1,mschap2
[admin@MikroTik] /interface ppp-client> /log print
00:14:51 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: initializing modem...
00:14:52 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: dialing out...
00:14:53 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: initializing modem...
00:14:53 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: dialing out...
00:14:54 async,ppp,info ppp-out1: initializing modem...

I just cannot seem to get it to link no matter what I do. I’ve tried different antennas, different cell cards, more configurations than you can shake a stick at. I’m hoping this is just something really simple that I’ve missed. Can anyone out there help me figure this out?

Thank you.

Hi;

Info channel should: 3 and you have to set data channel over 3, for example 4-5-6 wiil work. Because mc8790 has 7 channel.

After info channel=3 setting please check your carrier info from info button on interface page.

and please search " 3G Application on RouterOS" slide in wiki. that is Brian Vargyas and Arnis Riekstins presentation at MUM’09.

If you have any question, I can help you, I am using same hw configuration as you.

An oddball off topic question. What voltage is your power supply for the RB411U? Is it 24 or 28V? I’m using a 24V adapter, perhaps I’m not giving the board enough to give the cell card power?

Just wondering, thanks for the link. I’m watching it now.
