FYI 
12V 500mA power supply is not sufficient for RB411AR with ROS 4.3 - it does work (even with disabled miniPCI wlan interface) unless you enable on-board or miniPCI wireless interface

Perhaps we should have a wiki page on powering router boards. I live in Uganda and have to get my RB’s shipped from the US. I got a massive 24v 2a regulated active POE and it kept cutting out on my RB433AH + 2 wlan and a complete failure after 12 hours. Not helpful. I currently use salvaged laptop power supplies that are rated to about 90w

Did you read the specs?
What specs are you looking at? The data sheet says approximately 3 watts without an additional radio card. I would expect 6 watts to work with the on-board radio unless he added a card. Or is the data sheet wrong?

They used to have a table with power usage on routerboard.com.
It showed higher power requirements than 6W.
