It appears that the new RB411U routerboard supports 3G. It has a mini-pcie slot for a 3G modem. Does anyone have experience in connecting this router to a 3G network ? If so was it a good experience ? Also what 3G cards are supported? I cant find much documentation on how this is done.
I am running on a 3G as I type…
I use a Sprint USB 3G and MiniPCI-e wireless N card..
SMOKIN !!!
Thanks for the reply. I guess where I’m getting confussed on this router is it looks like it gives a slot for a SIM card. I’m assuming all you would need then is a mini-pcie 3 G card from a supplier such as sierra wireless. Am I missing the capabilities of the RB411U ?
I belive this is the case…
Check with the carrier.. Some need SIMs and some dont I belive…
The USB device I use does not need one..
some devices have built-in SIM and some don’t. The SIM slot is for those that don’t. Most USB devices have it built in, but many miniPCI-e cards need a separate SIM slot, that’s why it’s there.
Remember - the RB411U and other RouterBOARD products don’t have a built-in modem! You need to buy it separately or get it from your GSM provider.
Does anyone know what cards are supported? Will any GPRS modem work that is mini-pcie ?
we have tested this:
Option Qualcomm 3G WCDMA Model M00201-10886 miniPCI-e
It is an Option card, you can try to find such on ebay.
Has anyone tested any GSM 3g minipci-e cards in this? very interested in giving this a try as well
Edit
Or any compatibility charts? the one i found only listed a few CDMA devices, and i cant seem to dig up anything elsewhere on them.
Trying to build an affordable alternative to Airlink/bluetree products up here in canada, as those devices are costing us a fortune.
Maybe the USB solution is the only way, but as all the locations we use these for (scada) are remote and we generally need external antennas on tower/mast to get adequate signal.
Edit2
Ignore me, i was staring at the answer all along >.<
